Sculpture: Muhammad Ali Tribute

Paying tribute to a legend requires a lot. And I believe LA-based sculptor Michael Kalish did a wonderful job creating a tribute to the great Muhammad Ali, entitled reALIze, out of punching bags.

Over the course of two years, Michael Kalish put together 1,300 punching bags, 6.5 miles of stainless steel cable, and 2,500 pounds of aluminum pipe to build this 22-ft high sculpture. The front of this sculpture resembles the boxing legend, while the sides of the structure offer a view on how this tribute was put together. If you would like to see this sculpture, it will be unveiled to the public on March 25 at Nokia Plaza at L.A. Live. Mr. Kalish also has plans to travel with this installation around the country, with dates and cities to be named soon. I absolutely love this sculpture and I’m very proud to feature it during “Creative Week“. Stay tuned for more creative works tomorrow; but for now enjoy the tribute photo and a drawing of the sculpture.
