I got to see “The Hangover 2” yesterday. So what did I think of it? You’ll have to read below. “The Hangover Part 2” is about the wolf pack (Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug) jetting off to Thailand for Stu’s wedding. Stu’s plan for a subdued pre-wedding brunch, however, goes terribly awry.
Before deciding to watch this movie, I heard about the less than stellar reviews this film received by some. But I decided to view the movie for myself and see if it would be worth the watch. So was it worth the watch? Yes and No. This film follows in the same footsteps as the original ‘Hangover’ movie; unexpected scenes that push the limit, funny one liners, surprise guests, and a little bit of wonder for what will happen next. But suddenly, to me, a lot of the scenes started to look familiar. At one point you begin to know what ‘might’ happen next if you remembered the first movie; and all of a sudden that sense of wonder flew out the window. I can’t undercut this film by saying it wasn’t funny (because I laughed a lot), but I did expect more of a different storyline that wouldn’t bring me back to the first film. What made the first movie great was the story, the funny, and everything else combined. But with this film, it just felt like something was missing. Again it wasn’t the absolute worst, but it wasn’t the best. To me, this isn’t the sort of movie I would bring my young kids too, if I could help it, but again you’re the parent and it would be your decision.
The acting was good in this film (if you don’t count the wives performances) . Bradley Cooper who plays “Phil” acted well; his character is a**hole and he managed to pull it off. Ed Helms who plays “Stu” also acted very well; his character is still a pain in the ass and he will make you laugh. Zach Galifianakis who plays “Alan” was his usual funny self and acted well in this movie. Although I felt he could have been funnier (maybe he was being held back), he still did well. Justin Bartha who plays “Doug” and actor Ken Jeong who plays “Mr. Chow”, also acted well in this film. The monkey, in this film, stole the show and also did an incredible job. But what surprised me the most was the absence of former President Clinton in this film; I guess all the claims were false or maybe something else happened.. who knows.
All in all, this movie left me with just an ‘alright’ feeling. I don’t think this was a bad film; it was funny, it pushed the limit, surprised you in some moments, and kept you glued to the screen. The problem came when this film started to remind you of the last ‘Hangover’ movie, and begin to feel un-original and somewhat predictable. It’s safe to say this film has left me torn. I give this movie a 6 ½ out of 10. If the storyline was more original (and deviated from the last movie), they would’ve made another classic.

Yay! I’m so glad you saw this one. I’ve been waiting to talk to someone that did. I enjoyed the first movie, but was skeptical of this one. You confirmed my guess that it’s more of the same, but I’m glad to hear you still laughed. That’s all I’m really looking for – a good laugh. I’ll plan to see this one now. Thanks Kay! Have a great weekend!

Hey Kristy
. You know, I don’t think it would’ve have compromised the film if they deviated from the original movie more. Sure there were difference in both movies but the main stuff kind of stayed the same. It was still funny though. It was like one of those in-between movies that you don’t know what to think. Some movies are just good for a nice laugh and this one will give it to you.. just not as funny as the original. Girl you are so welcome and I hope you and the family enjoy this beautiful weekend

hmmm… I will give it a shot at home :p
#4 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 29, 2011 - 1:14 AM
Hey Bobby
. It’s one of those movies that are “in-between”. Funny though, but overall “in-between”. I hope you enjoy your weekend

#6 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 29, 2011 - 1:14 AM
Hey girl
. Let me know how it goes when you see it.
#7 by Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide on May 28, 2011 - 1:26 PM
Did Mike Tyson make a cameo?
#8 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 29, 2011 - 1:16 AM
Hey Greg
. Now you going to make me tell you lol. Since you asked…. Yes, he’s in it in some type of way
. Let me know if you and Katherine go see this, it’s a funny film. Don’t expect anything but laughs. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.

Not my cup of tea, but glad you didn’t get too let down…what shocked me most about this movie coming out is all the women I know going gaga over seeing it…granted, these girls are the party hardy kinda girls, but one said, and I quote, “I don’t think I have been more excited in my life for anything!”…really? O_o
#10 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 29, 2011 - 1:18 AM
Hey girl
. It as really an “in-between” film so I enjoyed it but it could have been better if you know what I mean. Well I can’t say anything because honestly I am that excited to see the last Harry Potter film LMAO. Let’s see when it’s over if I give an eulogy for the ending instead of a movie review LMAO. But yeah, that is overboard. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
#11 by Kemi on May 28, 2011 - 1:48 PM
Ooooh! I was going to see this during the week. Was hoping for at least a 7. Bummer. K
#12 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 29, 2011 - 1:22 AM
Hey Kemi
. I couldn’t give it a 7 because some of the movie reminded me of the first one. Of course you look for similarities but not as much as there was. I don’t think it was a bad because honestly I laughed a lot but not as much as the first. It’s one of those “in-between” movies that can go either way. Let me know if you do decide to see it. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
#13 by Artswebshow on May 28, 2011 - 10:01 PM
Honestly, i wasn’t overly impressed with the original hangover movie, so i will not be giving any of the others a chance.
#14 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 29, 2011 - 1:28 AM
Hey Artwebshow
. I don’t think this movie was ever meant to impress or win any statues, it was made to be funny. I didn’t expect anything going in but to laugh. It could have been funnier honestly, but it was an “in-betweener”. I’m glad you stopped by and visited my blog, come back and rant with us anytime
#15 by rsmacaalay on May 29, 2011 - 4:05 AM
I think you rated it bang on, I would rate it the same as well. While its not a really bad movie I agree it did not deviated from the original one.
#16 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 29, 2011 - 1:37 PM
Hey Raymund
. You’re absolutely right.. it wasn’t a bad movie in my opinion. But it wasn’t as good as the first because it reminded you of the first. It really could have been better with a better storyline. I hope you and your family enjoy your weekend
#17 by Lisa {Smart Food and Fit} on May 29, 2011 - 6:42 AM
Thanks for the review, I guess this means I’ll be seeing this one on dvd!
#18 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 29, 2011 - 1:41 PM
Hey Lisa and no problem
. You know it’s really up to you. You can see it on DVD or you can see it in the theaters. It really wasn’t a bad movie, you just have to figure out if you want to pay to laugh now or pay to laugh later (on DVD) lol. It really was a “in-betweener” movie for me. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend
#19 by eva626 on May 29, 2011 - 2:54 PM
I saw the first hangover …and i think it was just to adult like for me…but cooper is in it so…im confused again!
#20 by eva626 on May 29, 2011 - 2:58 PM

#21 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 30, 2011 - 11:52 PM
You guys are talking about me? Thats not nice lol. When I get back, I will see what you guys are saying lol
#22 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 30, 2011 - 11:50 PM
Hey Eva
. If you just want to see Bradley Cooper in this, you would love it lol. It’s really up to you.. You can wait or see it in the theaters. Or you can not see it at all lol. This was an “in-betweener” movie to me but it did make me laugh somewhat
. I hope you had a wonderful day
#23 by Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide on May 29, 2011 - 3:02 PM
Hey BabyGirl. I hope you’re putting the pen to the paper for Eva626′s Mad Lib contest. I really threw down the gauntlet with my dramatic reprisal of a night in my kitchen. Just saying, bring it!
#24 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 30, 2011 - 11:53 PM
Hey Greg. Oh really? Are you challenging me to a battle when I’m not even home? lol. I can’t wait to see your antidote
. Tell Katherine Hi for me.
#25 by Caroline on May 29, 2011 - 9:18 PM
I’ve been hearing mixed things about this movie as well. Glad to hear it was still funny, but I had a feeling they weren’t going to be able to make it as good/funny as the first film. But that’s pretty standard of sequels. I’m sure I’ll still see it though for a good laugh!
#26 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 30, 2011 - 11:55 PM
Hey Caroline
. To me it was still funny but not as funny as it could have been IF it had a better storyline. I honestly think it could have been better if they weren’t in a rush to put this movie out. Let me know if you see this movie. I hope you had a great day
#27 by startingoveringermany on May 30, 2011 - 4:52 AM
I am glad you wrote this movie seem a bit predictable and more like the original. This is why when it came out in the theater recently I told my husband if he really want to see it he can wait until it comes out on video. The trailer did nothing for me. Watching it I felt okay I am going to waste money to watch a repeat of the original but different situations. Don’t get me wrong I like the original but to spend a lot of money at a movie to know what might happen next naw.
#28 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 31, 2011 - 12:02 AM
Hey girl
. This movie overall was just an “in-between” movie for me. Some will be disappointed because it doesn’t live up to the original and the movie doesn’t help because it reminds you of the movie itself. It was just an “okay” film and could have been better but I did get a laugh
. I hope you had a great day today girl
#29 by Kim on May 30, 2011 - 4:22 PM
Too bad that it’s not outrageous :S
But I would still like to see it.
#30 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 31, 2011 - 12:17 AM
Hey Kim
. I wish it was a better movie girl. But it wasn’t bad either. It was just one of those movies lol. I hope you had a great day today
#31 by spiderpaw on May 30, 2011 - 5:16 PM
Thanks for the heads up. I may just wait for pay per view on this one.
#32 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 31, 2011 - 12:21 AM
No problem Spiderpaw. The movie was just an “in-betweener” for me. I stand by my thoughts when I say if it was a better storyline, it would have been a lot better.
#33 by Tanvi on May 30, 2011 - 9:50 PM
I saw the movie-well frankly the movie was slightly on the yucky side for me than hilarious! The plot and sequences were too similar to part 1 . I liked that monkey though-very cute
It was just okay- not too bad or too great!
#34 by Kay aka Babygirl on May 31, 2011 - 12:27 AM
Hey Tanvi
. I did laugh with this movie but I agree with you and my review.. it reminded me of the first movie. This movie is definitely what I call an “in-between” movie. I do wish it was better though. I hope you had a great day
#35 by Leona on June 5, 2011 - 4:58 PM
I actually enjoyed Hangover II more than I expected. I thought, how can they make a sequel that isn’t just a replica of the first? I felt like they did – there were enough surprises in it for me. I don’t like awkward humor that much, and some of it made me cringe too much, but I expected that. But you’re right – I think they ran out of steam toward the end and it seemed a little repetitive. I hadn’t planned to go see it until I saw Ken Jeong in the previews, and I thought he was hilarious so I told my husband we could see it theaters. I suppose it’s better if you start with lower expectations
#36 by Kay aka Babygirl on June 6, 2011 - 12:11 AM
Hey Leona
. I enjoyed watching it as well but the repetitive storyline was unoriginal. I felt they could have still been original while having the same type of movie. I loved the awkward moments because to me they kept me laughing. Without those, I fear the movie would have been horrible lol. But I’m glad you had a good time girl. I hope you had a great weekend
