My mother always told me, “When you grow up, you will have a lot of responsibility” and boy was she right. So when I need to de-stress, I find myself doing the things I use to do as a child; and today’s theme, “Summer Fun.. When we were Young“, is all about reliving your childhood favorite foods. So I couldn’t end Food Friday without featuring a Root Beer Float recipe. This recipe should be a form of nostalgia.. and who can deny how delicious these are (smiles). I just love this summer treat. View the ingredient list below and click the link for the recipe. Happy Friday

Now this was a real summer treat when I was a boy and I buy a 6-pack of root beer every summer just to make them again.

I know these by the name ‘spiders’! And in my childhood we use to sprint to have the first slurp through a straw as this drink would always foam over the glass…due to the fizz! Using fanta or coca cola! lol! We don’t have root beer!

I remember those! They were great. Still are

Have never tried a root beer float…..we don’t have root beer here, but as Yvette said above, we called them ‘spiders’ and they were delicious!

A classic! I used to love the anticipation of it frothing up and having to drink it quickly to stop it overflowing

I feel like I am 8 all over again. My dad used to make these for me when I was having a bad day when I was a little girl too.

My dad would LOVE this! And we tell our kids the same thing about responsibility that your mom told you. Most times being a grown up is fantastic, but sometimes it flat out sucks. I love that when things get tough you do things you enjoyed when you were younger. I like to do that too – swinging and flipping on the kids’ swing set is my release.

I have always loved a root beer float. When I was young there was a drive-in hamburger restaurant in Texas that the floats were more famous than the burgers. The outside of the glass was always solid ice. Thanks for the memories.

It’s very hard to get Root Beer in the UK (hard but not impossible for a well connected Canadian girl) as the British can’t seem to develop a taste for it. Today I’m going to put in a request for a care package from home and in 2-3 weeks I’ll be able to enjoy one!
