Unique Paper Sculptures
Posted by Purely.. Kay in Art on June 9, 2011
I thought when I posted ‘Paper Fantastic‘, I wouldn’t find another sculptor that could turn paper into something extraordinary. Turns out, I was wrong. Sydney based artist/sculptor Anna-Wili Highfield creates animals by using diverse materials such as archival cotton paper, cotton thread, copper pipe, timber block, ink, watercolors, and more. Each one of her creations, from far away, don’t appear as if it’s made from paper. For someone to be able to fool the eye and make something this wonderful, is a true artist in every sense of the word. Unique. If you want to view more of Anna’s work, you can check out her website by clicking here. I can remember making paper airplanes, as a child, that never flew anywhere (laughs). So when I see Anna’s work, I definitely have a new-found appreciation for paper art. Enjoy and have a great day ![]()

Art Series, 1001 Dreams
Posted by Purely.. Kay in Art on May 24, 2011
Yasmina Alaoui and Marco Guerra created something unique, mysterious, and alluring with their art series entitled “One Thousand and One Dreams“. This art series began with Marco photographing nude models in black and white by using film or a Polaroid. One completed, Yasmina draws Henna-like patterns by hand with a pen, ink, and watercolors. Yasmina also uses parchment, leaves, or dried insect wings to create these life-size works of art. I think this art series, including the process, is creative and wonderful. I’ve struggled with whether or not I should ever post nude art here. But I don’t think anyone would argue with me when I say, this art series is tastefully done. Vulgar is one thing, and artistic is another. And I think this is beautiful. If you want to view more photos from this series, please visit the website here (All photos are courtesy of onethousandandonedreams.com). Enjoy the day and stay inspired ![]()

Composite Art, by Erika Simmons
Posted by Purely.. Kay in Art on May 19, 2011
Artistic, is the word I would use to describe Erika Iris Simmons work and her amazing creative talent. Everyone knows I love to find new and exciting things to showcase here, but when I ran across Erika’s work I was at a loss for words. Her unique vision created something I never thought I’d see, out of items that are usually discarded when most people are finished with them (Tape ribbon, Film Reels, music sheets, etc.). It takes a creative visionary to design an idea that creates an artistic presence in a 3D sort of way.
I love when someones work leaves me in utter “Aww” and makes me conjure up the question “How in the world did they create something as beautiful as this?” So if you love the photos that are displayed here, then go check out Erika’s extraordinary artwork by visiting her website here or by visiting her Flickr page here. Also pay close attention to the photo on your left that gives insight into how she creates these artistic pieces. Enjoy your day and I hope you enjoy this post ![]()

Exclusively, Ryan Korban
Posted by Purely.. Kay in Interiors on May 18, 2011
I featured a room from designer Ryan Korban (with the incredible artwork) last week, and since then I’ve enjoyed viewing more of his work. I love how Ryan transforms a room and make it more unique than his last creation. I was shocked when I discovered he’s an untrained interior stylist; but talent isn’t based on what is taught but rather how you convey your vision.
Just viewing Ryan’s work, I get inspiration on how to add update and add new touches to my room without spending a lot. I’ve learned that one or two new items can make your room feel brand new without purchasing a lot of unnecessary stuff. And the artwork in these photos, are amazing. Check out Ryan Korban’s website here and feel inspired by what you can do to update any room in your home or apartment. Happy Hump Day ![]()

Kim Holtermand Photography

Denmark’s freelance architectural and landscape photographer Kim Holtermand, captures the right moment at the right time. His eye for the right angle and his attention to composition, evokes a story out of every photograph he takes. And of course, I love his work more because he began his career as a graphic designer (where I began my career). Unfortunately when returning to his website, I noticed his photos were gone; so I’m not sure how much more of his work you will get to view. But I will still include the website I have, hoping it will return. Enjoy and have a wonderful Tuesday ![]()

London commercial photographer Dirk Rees captures the moments most people wish they could. His eye for each photo tells a story of something extraordinary. Dirk has also worked in film, which allows him to capture these memorable moments and stop them in time. Each persons photo shows movement and motion, while creating a conversation piece. Beautiful and simplistic. To view more of Dirk Rees work, visit his website here. Enjoy these and have a wonderful day
